Four-Door Supercar

Thursday Apr 16, 2009

Aston sprung a surprise with the Rapide, a four seat, four door version of the DB9. The company has neither the capacity nor the desire to put this beauty on the market at the moment but the Rapide shows the flexibility of its aluminium VH platform and that Aston wanted to present a challenge to the forthcoming Panamera four door coupe from his previous employers Porsche. The Rapide is the first work for Aston of its new design. It would be relatively easy to put into production if and when there is a reduction in demand for any of its exisiting models the Vanquish, DB9 and V8 Vantage. Historically, Rapide is a model name of Lagonda, Aston’s associate marque , but if it goes ahead this one will be an Aston Martin. Aston has big plans for this car. The Rapide should go head to head with Porsche’s Panamera and perhaps the Conti GT.
